Blog 17: Answer 3

1. What is the best way for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction?

2. One of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is to know
   the patient's culture and lifestyle.

3. If the doctor knows the patient's language, they can properly treat them. ex:
   sign language or Spanish communicator.

If the doctor knows the background of the patient, they can know where the
patient comes from and give back that persona or attitude. To show the patient
that they know who they are and can build  relationship with them instead of the
patient feeling like just another number. AKA personal connection.

If the doctor knows the person's beliefs, they can use those to help make the
   patient more comfortable.

5. To know a patient's culture and lifestyle is so important because the doctor can
create a personal connection to the patient, making the patient more comfortable
because they will feel as if they are talking to a friend. The doctor will be
able to treat the patient better because of the patient's willingness to open
up, and the patient will be satisfied.

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

Over break I continued to work on my senior project by doing many components. I continued to attend my mentorship. I also caught up with my blogs, research articles, and interviews since my change of topic. Most excitingly, I worked a lot on my independent component, which I feel is coming along very nicely.

From everything that I did, the most important thing that I learned is that one of the ways to make sure a patient is satisfied in the end with their appointment, is by reassuring them that they will be OK. It is important that the patient knows that they are being cared for and will be happy and healthy in the end. This is important also for the patients who have anxiety and think that there is something wrong with them, when in reality, they are perfectly healthy. Reassurance is a key to patient satisfaction. This was most important because it answers part of my EQ. I learned it from Dr. Bishara one day while shadowing him; one of his patients was a healthy, yet anxious man.

If I had to do another interview, I would interview the office's Phlebotomist, Yaneli. I would interview her because she is a doctor who deals with blood and sees and treats patients. She would have great insight on how to deal with and approach different kinds of patients, and how she satisfies their needs.

Blog 8 - Research and Working EQ

Working EQ

What three ways is human kind most affected by climate changes?

Because of precipitation level change, water level change, ecosystem change,
and weather change, humans are being affected in:

  • Economy (resources)
  • Residential Areas
  • Adaptation
Most Important Source

The Environmental Protection Agency has provided a lot of insight and information because they study, record, and analyze the environment and the changes that occur.

Mentorship

My mentor is Rainer Luptowitz, a graduate at UCR, where I speak with him. He studies precipitation changes and how it affects different regions. One day we discussed the El Nino and La Nino and how it affected regions. This made me think about how the people would be affected. I decided I wanted to focus my project on how climate impacts people's lives.

Blog 5 Mentorship and Research Reflection

Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship

Once I realized and decided that I no longer wanted to study Climatology for my senior project, the thought "mentor" rushed into my head. Who would mentor me? How would I find a mentor at such a short notice? I was worried and anxious because I remembered that finding my first mentor had been such a tiresome and laborious task, almost failing all together. Luckily, my dad shared with me that there are many family members in the medical profession. We called up a few family members and friends who could not help me, but there was still hope. That's when we called my Aunt Patty and she gladly told us that she knew just the person to mentor me. Amazingly, she knew two doctors that could do it. This news was pure joy since I had such a hard time even finding just one person, before. My Aunt Patty told me a couple of days later that a doctor in West Covina was happy to help me in my project and I would be able to start mentoring right away. However, I found out that he did medical works in podiatry, which was far from my interests. It was unfortunate that I could not mentor with him, and so my last hope lay with the doctor in El Monte. It took weeks to get through all of the confirmations with the doctor and the manager of his office, but finally it was all completed. My Aunt Patty finally told me that I had a mentor. I was so happy and that Monday, she took me to the office and introduced me to Dr. Bishara and the rest of the staff. Everyone was extremely kind and welcoming and I have had good times there ever since.

What has been  your most important article you have read so far and why?

The most important article that I have read so far is called, "ACP American College of Physicians -Internal Medicine- Doctors for Adults." Family practice deals with biological, behavioral, and clinical sciences. Treated are people of all ages and both genders, every organ system and disease. Family practice is a very wide and general scope. Lastly, there is a family relationship between each doctor and her patient. This article was most important because it showed exactly how family practice is and what a doctor does in this practice. This was important because it is part of my main focus in this project, which deals with the relationship between a doctor and patient and how a doctor can increase patient satisfaction.
