Extra May Blog Post I GUESS...!

The purpose of this senior blog is to show updates on the senior project. It is May 31st and oh look, the senior project is no more. Therefore, this post is pointless, for all updates have been noted, including information on the future. Whatever, I will write anyways because I am a flawless student and I will not miss an assignment.

Here is the update. The senior project is OVER. Finally, thank the great Lord, our lovely Creator. The project was beneficial to my future because I wish to be a doctor, at least that is the plan right now. The senior project, when it was still going on, gave me knowledge about a medical career and experience in seeing it for myself, which I did through mentorship. I will go on and live and prosper. NOW, GOOD BYE.!

This is me, peacing out AGAIN, and there will be no more.

Blog 23: Final Lesson Reflection

1. Out of my whole presentation, I am most proud of my best answer  and the activity that went a long with it. My best answer was that the best way for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is for the doctor to treat their patient in a comfortable environment. I loved this answer because of the research I found on it. It fascinated me and my mind was blown, when I least expected it. Before this project, I had no idea that colors had different wavelengths and that the brain calculates them and responds to them with reactions from hormone secretions. I had no idea of the scientific processes behind how color affects mood and behavior. It was so interesting to learn about it all and it was even cooler getting to share that information with others through my presentation. I hope at least some were mind blown like I was.
I also loved my activity because I got to see how creative, inventive, and intelligent my fellow students were. I got to see them have fun with the factor of environment. It was awesome because watching them work and seeing their ideas, I learned a lot from them as they showed me things that I had not thought of before. So, it was just really cool to learn from the people that I was teaching to.

2. For my block presentation, I believe I deserve a P.
I also believe I deserve a P for my overall project.

3. What worked for me in my senior project was my third answer the best because I found a lot of information on it and was also most engaged with it than my other answers, so it worked really well. Also, coming up with my activity that tied into my third answer. Lastly, what worked well was when I was mentoring with Dr. Bishara at Durfee Medical. It was a great experience shadowing there, getting to see him work with all kinds of different patients. I gained perspective on the work life of a doctor, which has helped me, I believe, in my journey of becoming a doctor myself. I now am more educated on the medical life, so that was really cool. The last thing that worked extremely well was my senior project blog. Let's face it, my blog is awesome. I created a library theme of ancient books and wonder and knowledge. My font colors are all matching, and they are a beautiful reddish brown because that is the color of ancient books. Also, the typewriter font contributed to the feel of knowledge. And to make it a little more fun, the beginning letter of each paragraph was bolded and in times new roman. Which, if you are a reader yourself, old fantasy books do this with the beginning letters of the chapter. So, I had a lot of fun with my blog.

4. What didn't work was finding evidence for my second and third answers: reassurance & hope, connecting culturally. This was tough because those answers were a lot more subjective so it was harder to find evidence to support them. It was tough, but I did it, so i was glad for that.
If I could go back, I would probably try and change my topic to something relating to the circus or Cirque de Soleil. I chose Patient Care because I want to be a doctor when I grow up, however, circus acts are one of my loves, passions, dreams. I think if I could have mentored with someone in that field and would have been able to be apart of circus life somehow, I think that would have been absolutely awesome and I would have loved it and would have had a lot more fun with the project. I believe Patient Care helped me a lot, though, on my journey to becoming a doctor.

5. The senior project helped me with my future endeavors because I plan to be a doctor in the future, so I was able to gain insight of being a doctor through mentorship, watching Dr. Bishara how he worked on and interacted with the patients and how he handled different and difficult situations with patients and not with patients. I also was able to gain a lot of knowledge through all of the research. I believe it was all very beneficial and when I really go into the start of my journey, I won't be going in blindly.

THANK YOU AND FAREWELL

Blog 22: Mentorship

L: Dr. Ishak Bishara, Durfee Family Care Medical Group
  Sara Castanon, Hospice

I: The most important thing I learned from mentorship was that in order for a doctor to best satisfy their patient is to have a patient-centered care run facility. To make the patient happy, everything about the treatment and what is done in the treatment, should be done according to the patient's comfort and best interest. It is all about the patient. Each patient is a little different, so each patient care appointment should be tweaked to that patient to have the highest outcome of patient satisfaction. Dr. Bishara explained to me that each person is nervous to go to a doctor's appointment because they are nervous about shots, possible diagnosis, and all unknowns. He told me that while treating the patient, throughout the appointment  it is crucial for a doctor to continue to give reassurance and hope to the patient to ease their fear and nerves. And at the end of the appointment, the doctor must tell the patient that there is definitely hope for their life because there is medication and treatment that can help them so they do not need to worry because as long as they take the medication and do the treatment, they will be all right. From shadowing Mrs. Castanon, I learned the importance of reviewing the medical happenings in a hospital or medical facility, and having those happenings and decision reviewed and fixed if there are any mistakes. Nurses are humans and they can sometimes make mistakes, whether it be making a wrong calculation or giving treatment that it is not time for, for the patient's best interest. It is important for all of this to be reviewed, to make sure that the patients are actually being properly treated, and indeed becoming better.

A: This mentorship experience has helped me answer my essential question because a doctor's and nurses job is to care for a patient. This duty of a medical professional, if done correctly, will certainly bring patient satisfaction because that patient will be healthy and happy. Therefore, just by simply observing the doctor and nurses, I saw how they cared for and satisfied their patients. With Dr. Bishara, it was in the gentle  and familiar manner in which he gave his care that made his patients feel special and welcome. This quality of his helped me with my third answer, which discussed the importance of building a close relationship with a patient by being aware of and respecting and connecting with their culture. Dr. Bishara did this and it was successful because his patients always left the room smiling. It was also in which he reassured his patients that turned their frowns upside down. This helped me find my first answer, which stated for a doctor to give their patients reassurance and hope. With Mrs. Castanon, I also saw more to support my third answer. It showed the importance of documenting and reviewing information. She did this and in my third answer, in order to connect with the patient's culture, a doctor must have recorded information of the patient's culture and beliefs and lifestyle.

Blog 21: Exit Interview

1. What is the best way for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction?

*One of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is to give
    the patient reassurance and hope.
*One of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is to treat
the patient in a comfortable environment.
*One of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is for
the doctor to know and connect with the patient's culture.

Best Answer:One of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction
is to treat the patient in a comfortable environment. This is the
best answer because it is scientific and has been proved true that
environment affects mood and behavior. Unlike the other answers,
which are more subjective, environment can in fact increase patient
               satisfaction.

2. To arrive at this answer, I just thought about my own experiences from being in
a hospital. I thought about what made me comfortable and uncomfortable, and I
also thought about all the hospital environment stereotypes. One of the main
reasons why people hate going to the Doctor's is because it's such an
uncomfortable environment, cold, unwelcoming, scary. Therefore, I came up with
   my answer.

3. encountered no problems, particularly, but just needed to figure out what
about a hospital environment makes it scary and how those factors can be changed
to create some place comfortable for its visitors. Again, I thought on my own
experiences, the stereotypes, as well as research how to create a comfortable
hospital environment. I resolved these questions through researching answers and
   through personal interviews with nurses.

4. My two most significant sources were my first mentor, Dr. Bishara and a
dissertation written by college students (Sevinc, Kurt. "The Effects of Color on the Moods
of College Students." Diss. Cyprus International U, 2014. The Effects of Color on the Moods of College
Students. Sage Journals, 28 Feb. 2014. Web. 05 May 2015.)
Dr. Bishara was a very seasoned, experienced, knowledgable, and informational
man. He knew so much and answered all questions I had. He provided me with great
answers, especially about the importance of giving patients reassurance and
hope. The college dissertation was an incredibly useful source because it made
me really understand how color can affect a person's mood and behavior. I didn't
quite know how it could happen, before, but after reading the dissertation, I
understood and was amazed by the science behind the human-color connection.

Extra Blog Post for the April Ants and Eaters

This month I came up with an idea to do for senior presentation activity. Because two of my answers are a little towards the subjective side, I decided to do an activity on my second answer. My second answer is one of the best ways for a doctor to increase patient satisfaction is by treating the patient in a comfortable environment. Having the audience create the best environment for a patient is a better skill to teach than teaching them how to give reassurance and hope or connecting to a patient's culture.
Therefore I am going to have the audience create the best room for a child, teen, and adult. They will choose the colors in the room, medical equipment displayed and anything else they think should be in the room.
The audience will complete this task, most will fail, and everyone will learn. I will then present my answer and teach how to change the environment to satisfy each kind of patient.

(c) Done.

(d) Explain what you completed.
I had originally planned to do a documentary, following the stories of a couple people, their experiences at a hospital or clinic, their treatments, and what happened that made them satisfied or not with their care. I realized that this would give me too broad a range of information and decided to narrow it down. I looked at my second answer and decided to focus only on that. I researched all about how the environment affects the mood and satisfaction of a patient, as well as more in depth to the parts of the environment that cause effect. I researched and composed all of my findings into a powerpoint.

Interpretive

What I did for the component was research in depthly, my second answer, and present my findings in a powerpoint. The significance of it was that it allowed me to really know my second answer and it helped me understand why it is such a valuable and true answer. I was surprised with the info that I found, especially about the link between color and the brain’s responses. It was very significant and I even plan to include it all in my final presentation. Good research takes a long time, so that in itself shows a lot of time taken to complete. It is not a fast task to find the right support and evidence for your argument, in someone else’s publication. Research took most of my 30 hours. I also interviewed nurses to get a different points of view on my answer. Lastly, putting the powerpoint took time. It was like writing an essay, choosing the right information to put in the powerpoint. I have attached also pictures of the powerpoint.

Applied

It helped me answer my essential question because it was an actual answer to my essential question that I researched; my second answer. My second answer was that a doctor can increase patient satisfaction if they treat the patient in a comfortable environment. Some examples that I found were to have the right colors, lighting, temperature, and surrounding objects in the treatment room. Also, age group plays a role in deciding the right colors, etc. These were all factors of the environment that affect patient mood and satisfaction. If the patient is in a comfortable environment. they’ll feel content with being there, and satisfied with their treatment.
